Insight
Between september 2013 and august 2014, the Italian Academy of Forest Sciences carried out, on behalf of ISPRA (Superior Institute for Environmental Protection and Research), a research project for the construction of a national inventory of urban and peri-urban forests.
Wild urban forests are, instead, spontaneously re-naturalized areas, i.e. areas where the vegetation has enguffled the hosting structures and which were then abandoned by man.
The wood of Bologna, with approximately 20 hectares, is the largest, followed by other smaller woods in Padova and Milan.
